  1. I thought this essay was pretty interesting! For a while now I have considered English to be a language of great weight in global contexts, but I've tried not to consider it the most powerful language. I felt like that might be an idea that was a little bit ethnocentric, and that is a posture that I fight to avoid on most occasions. Crystal has a very interesting way of presenting ideas, moving through the process of helping the reader understand what a global language is, and the merits and problems of having a global language. I also thought his idea that the group with the most power can exact what language is spoken was interesting! The majority of people do not always hold control over society, and his ideas surrounding this topic were very interesting.

This essay didn't cause me to feel anything too overwhelming. I think it was a well-written essay presenting some solid ideas on a topic that I didn't understand very well. I hope that this essay, as with the others, will be a perspective-widener, and a thought-altering work to read through!
